Dear Colleagues,
We have good news for all of us. The ambition and desire of the Commonwealth University to acquire its own property to serve as its permanent home has been achieved. The goal has been achieved earlier than planned.
Last month, Commonwealth University took possession of No. 9, Oxford Close, Tottenham, London N17 OTE. The purchase of the property was achieved through mortgage financing made possible by the Union Bank UK PLC.
Many may think that, as a distance learning university, Commonwealth does not need a campus building. That is partially correct, especially as our collaboration with the Abbey College in London serves the purpose of a physical address. While this collaboration will continue, the needs of our growing number of students, coupled with the several other planned intellectual property projects such as Academic Journals and the group of Professional Associations, make it necessary for the university to have an independent operational base. The traffic of enquiries that these planned projects may generate is highly likely to distract and overwhelm reception staff of the Abbey College in London. For this important reason, the management of the Commonwealth University thought it considerate and wise to acquire this property as a permanent home of the Commonwealth University where strategic interests of the growing institution shall be pursued without hindrance.
GREATER CREDIBILITY
Brick and Mortar may not be absolutely necessary in distance learning provision. But it most definitely adds to one’s credibility when people see and feel where you are. The London campus building will beautifully serve this purpose.
LONDON AS A GOOD BRAND
Commonwealth University made a deliberate choice of London as the place to locate its international operations. London has had an inspiring and reputable tradition of academic freedom from the time preceding George Orwell and Karl Max. London itself is a reputable brand for excellence and academic inquiry. Commonwealth University hopes to benefit from all of this in the years ahead.
A MARK OF CONFIDENCE & INTEGRITY
By investing heavily in a London campus building, the Directors of the Commonwealth University have made a very loud statement about the confidence they have in distance learning. It is also a mark of integrity. The Directors believe in the future of distance learning and are prepared to invest for improved quality services.
HOW THE LONDON CAMPUS BUILDING WILL BE USED
The London campus building will be the operational centre of the London Graduate School who are the Tuition Providers for Commonwealth University and the St Clements University. It will be the
EUROPEAN CENTRE of the St Clements University.
The London Campus Building shall also serve as official correspondence address of the Island Open University (the Holding Company that established the Commonwealth University) as well as the operational base for UK professional associations established as intellectual property projects by Directors of the Commonwealth University.
